Some highlights from yesterday’s Travolution Summit. HSBC’s chief economist accused the media, lead by BBC’s Robert Peston for trying to talk us in to another recession, when the facts are that we are in a period of slow growth. His point was that whilst it isn’t great, it could be a lot worse. The emerging markets in Europe for online travel are interesting but remain relatively insignificant compared to the powerhouses of UK, Germany and France. Travelzoo’s Local Deals business is flourishing in a market of over 700 new entrants in the “flash sales” sector. Tripadvisor are encouraging users to share their review postings with their friends via Facebook. Mobile is hot, those without a mobile site will miss out. And Google + is going to be BIG (according to Google!)
